Kayla in the studio

Every child is different and unique, but just like adults at a wedding, children in an unnatural environment often follow a pattern. πŸ™‚

When kids come into a studio, they start out excitedly giving you the cheese smile and cutesy poses. Next, they relax and bop around and act all natural. The last stage when you know you have to take a break or wrap it up is when they get bored with you and ready to be done. Finally, when it’s all over, they don’t want to leave the studio, and ask if they can come back the next day!

Kayla was fun to have as our first studio child model. (Yep, that’s a wig.) We have a bunch of kooky, charming images from the hour or so that we spent together. Tammy and I enjoyed watching her bop around and I have to say that it was the first time I have had Britney Spears and Hannah Montana stations added to my Pandora queue!

no way, a million

The most important thing she’d learned over the years was that there was no way to be a perfect mother and a million ways to be a good one.Β

I really love the pictures that you have taken of our family.
They are some of my most prized possessions.

travel update.

Sunday, January 11th, 2009

Well, I am finally here in Phoenix, but my luggage is not. Getting through BOS and Chicago O’Hare really roughed me up. I spent all day yesterday experiencing delays, but not the “oh good I can get some work done” kind — more like the “why haven’t they posted the notice that I am at the correct gate?” kind. So much for catching up with email.

Here’s what I learned:

  • Traveling through major airports on a Saturday = bad news and droves of people.
  • Traveling through Chicago on a Saturday in winter = good luck with that one!
  • Wolfgang Puck sit-down restaurants in airports still have plastic silverware… and are overpriced but delicious.
  • ORD has weird sliding clear plastic toilet seat covers you’re supposed to change before you sit down.
  • While you can’t get any computer-related work done when you’re sitting on the runway, cell phone brickball is awesome.
  • My blackberry pearl (T-Mobile) does not auto-update for the time zones. Am I missing something?
  • Pack (at the minimum) your toothbrush and some undies in your carry-on. Seriously.

away from the office…

A quick update to let you all know that I am headed out of town again, this time to Arizona and Florida. Sunshine sounds pretty good right about now, doesn’t it? I’ve had extremely limited email access for the past couple of days in particular as I prepare for the trip, but I hope to have some time tomorrow as I travel to catch up on those of you writing to enquire about our casting calls, boudoir sessions, and wedding commissions. Thanks for your patience!

Here are some photos I took back in June 2007, on one of the afternoons I had taken off to explore some natural beauty. My friend Amy and I trekked out to Walden Pond in Concord, Massachusetts. She brought her journal and a book of poems, and I was armed with my camera. To be honest, I wish I took time off more often!Β  Being self-employed, I find it ironically MUCH more difficult to make time for leisure and play, and travel is definitely not relaxing even though it can seem glamorous. Enjoy these greens!

I’ll be back in Boston on January 20 and looking forward to some fun shoots in the studio.

Hey, how are you? I figured it’s been eons that I’ve been admiring your work as a lurker, but realised I’d better come out and say it in person. Great stuff your photography! And quite the inspiration. Talking to you the day we helped Kristen move into her Newton apartment convinced me that this is what I should be doing instead of engineering, and after moving back home, it is what I am doing. I am still building up my skills in it, but at least it is earning me a living. Keep on doing what you do as you give the world gorgeous pictures and inspire some of us.
